Flyers had a chance to get Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Shea Weber was also one of the players that the Flyers could of got, but the Predators bought the Flyers out. And today the NHL lockout is still going on.

NBA New Faces New Places

New Faces New Places By: Jared Goldberg

This new NBA season starts on October 30th. There were many trades and free agency pick-ups and great draft picks in the offseason. I’m going to tell you about the big moves for every team.
First off the reigning champions Miami Heat picked up Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. This will help them have a better bench and great reserve players. It will also help LeBron James and Dwyane Wade get more rest. Next off with the Los Angeles Lakers. They picked up Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. These are going to help the aging Lakers do a lot better in Kobe and Nash’s last years. They also added Antwan Jamison who is a very good shooting big man as a 6th man. The Denver amped up they’re lineup by adding Andre Igoudala, a player whose energy fits into the Nuggets style of play. The Philadelphia 76ers had many changes too, adding Nick Young and Jason Richardson which are both good outside shooters. To cap it all off the 76ers added Andrew Bynum, when he comes back from injury he will dominate the Atlantic Division. The Brooklyn Nets made a huge move to help their success. By adding Joe Johnson to their starting lineup Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and himself should lead them to a much better record than last year. The Rockets got a very good trade too, they accepted into their Cole Aldrich, Lazar Hayward and of course James Harden. The Thunder got Kevin Martin and draft pick Jeremy Lamb from the Rockets and also picked up Perry Jones in the draft. The Washington Wizards made a couple good moves in the offseason picking up Bradley Beal in the draft and trading for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza. Finally the Bobcats and the Hornets got the two biggest picks of them all, the Hornets drafted Anthony Davis, and the Bobcats drafted Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. This is your 2012-2013 NBA offseason.

Book Review: Complications by Atul Gawande

Complications By: Atul Gawande Book Review
By: Chris Avila

If you are interested in life sciences and more specifically the human body, Atul Gawande’s Complications is the right book for you. It is extremely fast moving and very interesting.

The book starts in Gawande’s first year of medical residency. It goes through the many challenges the an operating room surgeon faces in his day to day work. It approaches cases as normal as putting in a stint and bizarre as necrotizing fasciitis, a deep tissue infection. But besides the physical aspects of surgery, it also delves into when surgery and amputations are necessary or not. These decisions often turn out to be highly emotional for both doctor and patient.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it to you.
You can buy it here on Amazon for $10: http://www.amazon.com/Complications-Surgeons-Notes-Imperfect-Science/dp/0312421702/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349958909&sr=8-1&keywords=complications

Canby Park XC By: Chris Avila

WILMINGTON, DE – This weekend, weekend of 10/13/12 the cross country team struck again. With Andrew and Chris Avila sick the teams usual top two finishers were tough to come by. So Andrew winning his race by only 20seconds and breaking the course record by a slim 9seconds (in other races he would break the record by over 30seconds.) Alex Horgan took Chris Avila’s place as #1 varsity runner. Cole Bouchard, Nick Salomeda, Mail Mase and Jason Blackwell helped fill the wholes in the sick, varsity team.
The JV was broken up between two races, so it is tough to describe all of the runners, but the JV did well as always but behind St. John’s for #1.

NBA 2K13 Game Review

By: Adam Barksdale, Will Lock and Max Krinsky

NBA 2K13 is a great game because it has better graphics, and the skills of the players are more realistic than ever! You can play online with friends or against someone at random around the world. There is a feature called “My Player” which allows you to create your own NBA player and have him declare for the draft out of college, get drafted, and play out an entire season. That feature is very cool because you can choose which team you would like to play on. The dunk contest is probably one of the best features there are so far in NBA 2K13. However, to be able to play the dunk contest you need to pre-order the game NBA 2K13. The dunk contest requires some gaming skill; you get to dunk as any pro player you want to versus any player you want to face. You have the option to do the most cool and creative dunks, and to make the dunk you have to hit all of the buttons on the controller that it tells you to really fast. This game is a must GET!

iPhone 5 Review

iPhone 5 Review By: Jared Goldberg

The iPhone 5 is amazing. It is the best iPhone yet. The iPhone 5 has many new effects. One of the great effects of the new iPhone 5 has is that it is a much taller device. This helps you see more of your content on your iPhone while still being able to use one hand to text, call, facetime, etc. This one is hard to believe, while the iPhone is the tallest iPhone yet it is the lightest and slimmest iPhone Apple has ever made. Apple made a new camera for the iPhone, the new panorama effect allows you to start a picture at one side of the room and you can move the iPhone slowly to the other side of the room and you will have a picture of the entire room. The new retina display makes the iPhone the clearest screen on the market. Siri, the automated, voice-controlled virtual assistant, is a more refined helper. Restaurant reservations, navigation, and sports scores are more accessible than ever. Siri can also open an app for you, all you have to say is go to the app, then you say which app you want to go to and she does it for you. Siri can make a call for you and also a text as long as you tell her what what you want to say or who you want to call. Another new effect is the new charger, the charger is a lot smaller than the old one and is also reversible. This is good when because on the old iPhones you would have to move the charger around trying to find the right side, risking the chance of breaking the charger and a part of your phone. This is why the iPhone 5 is the greatest iPhone yet.

SEA Soccer Victorious on the Pitch By: Nicola Barbieri

So far the varsity SEA 7-8 grade soccer team is undefeated without any ties. The semifinals of the league tournament will be played on Saturday, October 27 against the winner of IHM and Christ the Teacher. This past weekend we won against St. Peter’s 3-1, with two goals from Cole Bouchard and one goal from Sean Murray. After great saves by our goalies, Michael Nauman and Dino Matulas, we ran away with this match. Both goalies have only let two goals in the net so far this year.

Way to go 7-8 Varsity St. Edmond’s soccer team!!
