So far, the NHL season has been a wild ride. With the predicted good teams doing terrrible, and the predicted bad teams doing amazing, the season has had some surprises such as rookies rising up to the occasion. Also, one of the best players today is out for months: Steven Stamkos. Here are the top 10 league leaders in each category as of 12/18/13:

NHL Season Starting

As the NHL season is aproaching, the Philadelphia Flyers have new additions along with all of the 29 other teams. The Flyers have added #40 Vincent Lecavalier from the Tampa Bay Lightning. Vincent has played his whole career and thought he was going to retire. He was signed by the Flyers on July 2, 2013. The Flyers have also signed #29 Ray Emery. Emery has played on the Flyers before and then left to Chicago. He was 19-1 last year and will be the Flyers starter. The Flyers have signed #2 Mark Streit. Streit was signed by the Flyers on June 12, 2013. He will most likely play on D-Line #1 along with Brayden Coburn or on D-line #2 with Oliver Lauridsen. The last Flyers transaction was adding #37 Kris Newbury who will be on line 3 or 4 with Zac Rinaldo who is a fighter. Wicked Tuna Season Review

This was a fun year of Wicked Tuna on National Geographic Channel. Last year’s champ, Dave Carraro and FV-Tuna.com from Gloucester, MA were off to a steady lead. But then he and Sandro, his first mate, went into a 6 week drought without catching any fish. That then allowed the Pinwheel from Rye, NH to catch up and take the lead. Dave and ”.com”, what it is usually called, had to bring in an old companion from the previous year, Paul Hebert. He is quite the jokester but when it came down to catching fish, he was the one to do it. Pinwheel is captained by Tyler Mclaughlin. He is the youngest captain in the two seasons that Wicked Tuna has been airing. Hard Merchandise was captained Dave Marciano and the boat is 10-20 years old. It broke down in the middle of the season. He fixed it but then it sunk on the very last episode of the season. Odysea is captained by Ralph Wilkins. He only had 7 or 8 fish on the year and .com and Pinwheel had 39 each. Paul Hebert left .com to captain his own ship, Lisa and Jake, with his brother and the first mate. Projected Title Winners and Polls

The projected title winner for the NHL are either the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Chicago Blackhawks. The Pittsburgh Penguins finished the season with 36 wins, 12 losses, and 0 overtime losses. The only team to have 0 overtime losses out of all 30 teams in 48 games. The Penguins are tied 2-2 in a series with the New York Islanders. The Chicago Blackhawks finished with 36 wins, 7 losses, and 5 overtime losses. They had a 26 game point streak. The Blackhawks are winning the series 3-1 against the Minnesota Wild. All games are in the first round except the San Jose Sharks and the Vancouver Canucks. The Sharks swept the Canucks 4-0. The first series to be over in 2013. All series in the first round have been completed. Sharks beat Canucks 4-0, Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Islanders 4-2, Rangers beat the Caps 4-3, Red Wings beat Ducks 4-3, Bruins beat Leafs 4-3, Kings beat Blues 4-2, Senators beat Habs (Canadiens) 4-3, Blackhawks beat Wild 4-1.

The projected title winner for the NBA are either the Miami Heat or the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Miami Heat won their first series by beating The Milwaukee Bucks in 4 games too none. The star player on the Heat, LeBron James won the MVP award during that season. They moved on to the Chicago Bulls in the second Round and lost the first game but, tied up the second game. They finished the Bulls off in 5 games and now moved on to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Houston Rockets in the first round in 4 games too 2. They moved on to the Memphis Grizzles and the series is now over and the Memphis Grizzles beat the Thunder in 5 games. The Indiana Pacers are beating the New York Knicks 3 games to 1. The Golden State Warriors are in a tight series with San Antonio Spurs and they are loosing too them 3 to 2.

The projected title winner for the MLB are either the San Francisco Giants or the Texas Rangers.
The Giants have won the World Series last year giving them an advantage for popularity, and are racking up wins at Home. Their record for Away has not been doing that good this season with more losses than wins. The Texas Rangers (so far) are the best in the west. With more wins at Home and Away the Rangers have the second highest percentage in the league.

The NHL has been trending all year long. A lockout and a new leader in point streak: Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks sadly lost their streak weeks ago in a big 7-2 loss. They were 24-0-4 at the beginning of that game. Now they are 35-6-5 with 75 points. There are 4 games left in the season for most teams. Here are the standings as of now:

NHL Gamecenter Review

Chicago Blackhawks Extend Point Streak To 24

The Chicago Blackhawks are second in the list of most games without a regulation loss with 24. Only the Philadelphia Flyers are ahead of them with 35 in 1979-80. The Flyers that year finished 48-12-20. 27-5-8 at home and 21-7-12 on the road. The Blackhawks are 11 games away from eclipsing the Flyers record. Only last week they passed the Anaheim Ducks at 17. The Flyers finished 1st in the Campbell Conference and 1st in the Patrick Division. The Blackhawks are in 1st in their division and 1st in the Western conference with 45 points (21-0-3). I think it is safe to say that the Chicago Blackhawks clinched the Division title and the President’s Trophy (best record in league).

Simon Gagne Is Back In Philadelphia

Simon Gagne is back in Philly. Gagne, who previously played 10 seasons in Philadelphia, was traded in 2010 to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Matt Walker and a 3rd round draft pick in 2011. The Flyers used that pick on current Adirondack Phantom, Marcel Noebels. Noebels is considered the next Claude Giroux. When the Phantoms were playing in Philadelphia, one more time before moving to Allentown next fall, Noebels scored the only goal for the Phantoms in a 2-1 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Simon Gagne played for the Flyers in their 2010 Stanley Cup run against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins, and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Flyers would lose to the Blackhawks 4-1 in the series but made a good run.

Gagne scored a goal in his return to Philadelphia yesterday against the Washington Capitals. He was named 3rd star of the game.

MLB Is Back, Spring Training Starts In April

The MLB is back. Pitchers and catchers reported to camps last week. As the World Series champions, San Francisco Giants, are ready for another successful season, all the other teams are watching rookies. The Philadelphia Phillies are watching players that have rarely played. Darin Ruf. Erik Kratz. Kratz will start the first 50 games for the Phillies because of the 50-game suspension to Carlos Ruiz for using drugs against the policy. Ruiz, AKA Chooch, had a monster season last year. Belting 16 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 4 stolen bases. Kansas City Royals’ AA OF, Wil Myers, is a star to watch. Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs, 1B, will be a star in this coming year. He play for half the season last year and made an impact. Trever Bauer, Arizona D-Backs P, was exellent in 3 starts this past season. It was amazing. The season is just aroung the corner and it will be epic.

NHL Update, Week 5

In week 2 we have one beast team, Chicago Blackhawks (13-0-3). 29 points. You get 2 points for a win and 1 point for an OT loss, hence, 29 points. They are the best in the NHL so far. The season still has 30+ games and for Ottawa that will be a long time. Why you might ask. Their star defenseman, Erik Karlsson, is out for the season with a cut in his leg and will need surgery.
